"We must have courage to bet on our ideas, to take the calculated risk, and to act. Everyday living requires courage if life is to be effective and bring happiness. " Maxwell Maltz

Life is an ever evolving and constantly changing process. It demands that we make changes everyday to cope with our non static and ever changing personal environment. Sometimes we need to make major life altering decisions if we are to cope effectively with our new slice of reality. Other times ,the decisions we need to make and the steps we need to take to be successful are not as critical. We have more leeway and feel less stress.

Fear at times tends to polarize our choices in life. We feel constricted by having to make a classic this-or that type of choice. A growing sense of fear impedes our progress. It causes us to take no action at all. The issue in our minds becomes an either or situation. We get backed into a corner. Everything becomes black-and-white and our options limited to either this or that solution.

We end up spinning our wheels and getting nowhere fast. We focus all of our attention and energy on trying to resolve the problem at hand with the choices available to us as we see them. We take no action because we don't see an equitable solution to our problem.

Instead of being mired in the depths of uncertainty and doubt try looking at your situation from an entirely different perspective. Instead of fearing moving into a new house or apartment see the move as an opportunity to meet new people. Think of all the freedom you'll have living in a smaller and less demanding residence. Concentrate on the positives and minimize the negatives.

Rather than constantly reviewing your list of pros and cons on a particular decision you have to make try another perspective. Become your own critic by rating the advantages and the disadvantages that go with each decision you need to make. Be honest and list the pluses and the minuses. Taking a new tack will offer you a new perspective on things and the act of writing down your answers will get you to honestly examine and evaluate your options.

Try a bit of personal brainstorming and look for a new option to your dilemma. You've bandied about your current this or that situation with no results. Create a third option for yourself. You dislike your current job but you hate being unemployed. Think of all the talent and ability you have and actively seek a new employment opportunity based on your evaluation of yourself. Have fun but be honest with this and always see yourself in your best light.

Remember that all life is a gamble and that many decisions we have to make everyday really aren't life and death related. Many decisions aren't worth agonizing over. Carry a pair of dice with you at all times. If you need to make an either or decision on a matter you feel somewhat wishy washy about take out the dice. Assign a value to the either /or choice involved and roll the dice. Have fun and let fate take the worry out of the decision for you. Gamble at times like these on your happiness.

If you are still stuck by what to do take a longer term view of things. Imagine yourself fifty years from now and you are consulting that person for advice. This older person has experienced a lot more life than you have and will be patient enough to listen to your concerns and doubts. This older mentor is eager to help you make important decisions.

Many situations in life require us all to make a decision and take some course of action. But remember that life is also meant to be lived and enjoyed and  shared and acted on.
