Sunday May 9th 2010 is Mother's Day. This is the day that has been so kindly set aside to officially honor that woman who changed our diapers, wiped our noses, prepared our hot baths and suffered in the delivery room waiting for us to randomly decide when we would leave the warmth and safety of the womb and make our own grand entrance into the world.

The corporate world has generously decided to help celebrate this lady's special day by devoting its cadre of dedicated advertising men and women to selling her flowers, spa treatments, candy, wine and fine dining out experiences.

Mother's and daughters, according to many radio commercials, can once again bond and share a spa filled weekend at that expensive retreat that promises to not only rejuvenate and open their clogged body pores but also reestablish the broken lines of communication that may have developed between a dustant daughter and her loving mother over the course of the past 12 months.

Sons are equally guilty of ignoring their mothers all year. Business meetings, deadlines and other headaches have prevented a great many of these men to lose contact with their mothers even though she lives at the other end of the city.

Out of a sense of guilt they now smother her with perfume, candy, flowers and hugs and kisses all meant to wipe away a solid year of neglect and uncaring.

Many mothers secretly love all the attention and fuss their offspring bestow on them. All that trouble delivering them at birth now seems worthwhile. Imagine someone as busy and as important as all that taking one whole day off to honor her. Jeez mom! You're the best.

Hallmark cards always seem to express the right words and sentiment for those siblings who are always tongue tied and lost for words to express their feeling about their mothers. Without the major greeting card companies Mother's Day might be a day filled with expensive gifts and no verbally expressed sentiment.

The more important day to take into consideration is the day after Mother's Day. Who is going to clean up the streets and the parade ground littered with litter, confetti , cans and other refuse used to honor her on Sunday? Mother of course will do this. She is after all civic minded, dedicated , understanding , dependable and loving.

For once we should all boycott the corporate idea of Mother's Day and make everyday a chance to honor, love and cherish the woman who gave us all she had and made us what we are today. This action costs us nothing but is worth a million dollars to our mothers.

Never forget to celebrate the fact that without your mother you probably would not be here. Happy Mother's Day .
