I recently received the following Hotmail request in my email asking me to provide personal information or else my account will be discontinued. The email itself is listed at the end of this brief article.
For years I always believed that outfits like Hotmail would not blatanly request such information no matter what the conditions.
In this photo Brad Smith (L) senior vice-president and general counsel of Microsoft watches as New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer speaks at at press conference December 18, 2003 in New York City.
Spitzer filed a lawsuit against some of the world's largest spammers for sending emails to consumers while hiding behind fake identities, forged email addresses
Please let me know if you have received a similar request in your hotmail in box and what you intend to do to rectify this situation. For myself I am going to delete the email and treat it as a bogus request.
The poor use of the English language, faulty syntax and a few other give away clues forces me to suspect a non english speaking person(s) are perpetrating this fraud.
Be careful with the emails you reply to and protect your personal information from unscrupulous individuals.
The following email could be fraudulent and invasive:

Top-level comments on this article: (5 total)Too bad they can't spell. "We are having congestions?"Thank you for your comment Raymond.
This type of highly suspicious email entraps many seniors in their 60's, 70's and even 80's who inadvertently believe that the message was sent from an official Hotmail source and that their email account will be discontinued if they do not comply with this seemingly authentic request.
Many folks in these age categories are just beginning to rediscover the power of the the net to establish and maintain contacts with friends, family members and new online acquaintances. So they readily comply in the hopes that their email account will not be discontinued and they will not lose communication with their online contacts.
This type of piranha who feeds off the innocence of seniors will hopefully be caught one day and then reap their unjust rewards.Oh they'll be caught! In their own karma. What damage they do to others will be repaid ten times over. It's a law of the universe. If only they knew.Thank you for your comment.
Let's hope that their ignorance one day has them caught by the appropriate authorities. Until that day however it is a good idea to question each and every piece of email we all receive.
Enjoy the day.I continue to receive Fake emails from addresses such as this one: (database1902@hotmail.com) they keep attempting to get me to give them all my log in information etc. I did an online search as to where to report this kind of thing but cannot readily find a place to report these Fake Hotmail emails. Any advise would be great.
Thanks Gerry...I will pass this on also.Thank you Dr Rucker for your comment
I empathize with not only seniors but all individuals who don't question all the email we all receive each and every day. The perpetrators obviously have no conscience nor appreciation for the righness and wrongness of things. One day their arrogance will cause them to falter and they will receive their just desserts.
Take care. Enjoy the day.
I received another email today September 30, 2010 informing me that my account will be closed and my access denied. I wrote an email to MSN describing the email threat and demand.
The return email address for this bogus message is maintance.team@hotmail.com.
Notice the spelling of the word "Maintenance". Did the sender of the message NOT consult his dictionary to at least appear educated.
Thank you so much! I was actually googling this "database1902@hotmail.com" on line, and to see if it is a fraud, you know what, the email that I have received is exactly the same as you have described. I am not going to reply it for sure now! Thanks!
WOW !!! i got one to, and was just looking into this...to see if it was true or suspicious... wow ppl dont have nothing more to do with there day i guess! thank you all for giving me the chance to see that it was a bad email.. does anyone know how to report that email tho?
